AU 2007: Get Fully Equipped in AutoCAD Architecture

Just a reminder for those of you fortunate enough to be registering for AU, I will be teaching a course called Get Fully Equipped in AutoCAD Architecture (AB114-4), which is scheduled for Tuesday, November 27, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm in Murano 3203. It is the only AutoCAD Architecture class currently scheduled in that time slot, and I hope to see you there.

Come see a method of creating and scheduling equipment that I have used for several health care projects and which could easily be used on laboratory projects or adapted to any other project type where you need to show equipment or furniture in plan, with identifying tags and then create a schedule to list those items and related data. Equipment not your thing? Then come to see how to analyze a scheduling task and apply the schedule features in AutoCAD Architecture to meet the needs.

Be sure to check out Matt Dillon's Schedule Anything in AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP, on Friday, November 30, from 8:00 am - 11:30 am and leave AU 2007 a scheduling pro!

Hi David,

I signed up to both your class and Mat's class. I you talked to Mat to make sure you're both not going to discuss the same thing? It would be great if the classes were coordinated to compliment each other.

Hello Scott,

I am glad to hear you signed up for my class. Matt and I have not had any formal contact to try to coordinate what we are doing, and given that we are both dealing with the same AutoCAD Architeture feature, there is bound to be some overlap. I took Matt's class three years ago, and just skimmed through the class handout from this class last year, and while Matt will, no doubt, be sprucing it up for 2008, I have a pretty good idea of what he will be teaching.

I think the classes will be complementary - Matt will be taking 3 1/2 hours to cover all of the components that comprise the Schedule feature, and covering how they all work together. Anyone who has either only used the out-of-the-box content, or who has only had limited experience trying to customize things will benefit enormously from taking Matt's class. I have 1 1/2 hours, and will be focused on presenting a particular use of the Schedule feature, an Equipment Schedule. I will have a brief overview of the major Schedule feature components, just to make certain no one will be lost due to total unfamiliarity with the feature, but I will only discuss individual items in any depth where they are used by my Equipment Schedule.

I also will be discussing how I approach a Schedule task and get into content creation - Multi-View Blocks to represent equipment, as well. Ideally, Matt's class would have been held first, allowing mine to build on the knowledge gained in his, but the only slot in the AU schedule for the "double" class is Friday morning.

Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to seeing you there. Now to get back to working on the class materials.

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply. It sounds to me like your class is going to be an intermediate class while Matt's is a beginner class. Although the ideal situation would be to hold the beginner class first I'm sure it will be fine the way it is. Thanks again for the reply and I'll see you in a couple of months.
